Smart Notifications (Back-in-Stock and Price Drop Alerts)

Overview

Smart Notifications allows customers to subscribe to automated alerts for two types of events: back-in-stock and price drop. When a product returns to stock or its price falls, subscribed customers receive an email notification automatically. This helps recover lost sales from out-of-stock situations and incentivizes price-sensitive shoppers to return and complete a purchase.

Configure Smart Notifications in your ExpertRec control panel under Advanced > Smart Notifications (route: /ecom/smart-notifications).

Notification Types

  • Back-in-stock alerts: A customer viewing an out-of-stock product can click a “Notify me when available” button. When stock is replenished and the product syncs back to ExpertRec, the customer receives an email.
  • Price drop alerts: A customer can subscribe to a product at its current price. When the product price decreases by more than your configured threshold, the customer receives an email with the new price and a link to the product page.

Enabling Smart Notifications

  1. Log in to your ExpertRec control panel.
  2. Navigate to Advanced > Smart Notifications.
  3. Toggle Smart Notifications on.
  4. Configure the settings described in the next section.
  5. Save your settings. The subscription buttons will appear on your storefront for eligible products.

Configuration Options

  • Sender name and email: Set the name and email address that appear in outgoing notification emails.
  • Email subject line: Customise the subject line for back-in-stock and price drop emails separately.
  • Email body template: Edit the notification email content, including the product image, name, price, and a call-to-action button linking to the product page.
  • Price drop threshold: Set the minimum percentage or absolute price reduction that triggers a price drop alert (for example, notify only when the price drops by 10% or more).
  • Maximum notifications per subscriber per day: Prevent email fatigue by capping how many alerts a single subscriber can receive in a 24-hour period.

Viewing Subscribers

The Smart Notifications page shows a list of all active subscriptions, including the subscriber email, subscribed product, notification type (back-in-stock or price drop), and subscription date. You can export this list as a CSV file for use in your email marketing platform.

Requirements

Smart Notifications requires that your product catalog syncs stock and price changes to ExpertRec in real time via webhooks or a scheduled feed update. Delayed syncs may result in notification emails being sent later than the stock or price change actually occurred.
