What is Personalization?

Personalization tailors search results and suggestions to each individual shopper based on their browsing and purchase behavior. Returning customers see results ranked according to their preferences, while new visitors get results based on aggregate popularity signals.

How to Enable Personalization

  1. Log in to your ExpertRec dashboard.
  2. Navigate to AI > Personalize in the sidebar.
  3. Toggle the personalization switch to enable the feature.
  4. Configure the personalization strength (how much weight to give personal signals vs. general relevance).
  5. Click Update to save your changes.

How It Works

  • Behavioral signals: The system tracks which products a user views, clicks, and purchases to build a preference profile.
  • Category affinity: If a shopper frequently browses a specific category, products from that category are boosted in their results.
  • Recency weighting: Recent interactions carry more weight than older ones, so results stay relevant to current interests.
  • Privacy-safe: All personalization data is anonymized and tied to browser sessions, not personally identifiable information.

Best Practices

  • Enable personalization alongside your existing ranking and boosting rules. Personalization adds a layer on top of your base relevance settings.
  • Monitor the impact using Reporting > User Engagement > Conversion Rate to compare before and after enabling.
  • Start with a moderate personalization strength and increase gradually based on results.
