Agentic Search (AI-Powered Conversational Search)

What is Agentic Search?

Agentic Search is a conversational AI-powered search mode that understands natural language queries and provides intelligent, context-aware responses. Unlike traditional keyword-based search, Agentic Search can interpret user intent, handle complex multi-part queries, and even engage in follow-up conversations — delivering a ChatGPT-style discovery experience directly on your store.

With Agentic Search, shoppers can describe what they want in their own words, ask comparison questions, and get AI-generated summaries alongside actual product results from your catalog.

How It Differs from Traditional Search

  • Traditional Search matches keywords and returns products containing those exact terms or their configured synonyms.
  • Agentic Search understands the intent behind the query, handles conversational and multi-turn queries, and generates natural-language summaries of the matching products.
  • Agentic Search can reason across attributes — price, material, use-case, compatibility — in a single query.

How to Enable Agentic Search

  1. Log in to your ExpertRec control panel.
  2. Navigate to Settings > Agentic Search.
  3. Toggle Agentic Search on.
  4. Save your changes. The feature is available in the control panel at e-commerce-dashboard/agentic-search/.

Note: Agentic Search is available on Premium and Enterprise plans.

Configuration Options

  • AI model selection — choose the underlying LLM used to interpret queries and generate responses.
  • Conversation mode settings — enable or disable multi-turn follow-up conversations and control context retention.
  • Natural language understanding parameters — tune how aggressively the system infers intent, including thresholds for attribute extraction and result summarization.

Use Cases

Complex Product Discovery

Example: “I need a waterproof jacket for hiking in cold weather under $200.” Agentic Search extracts the category (jacket), attributes (waterproof, for cold weather), intended use (hiking), and price constraint (under $200), then returns matching products along with an AI-generated summary.

Customer Support Queries

Shoppers can ask questions like “Which of your laptops supports 32GB RAM?” and receive a direct, conversational answer backed by products from your catalog.

Comparison Queries

Example: “What’s the difference between product A and product B?” Agentic Search can compare attributes across two or more products and summarize the key differences.

Best Practices

  • Ensure your product catalog has rich attribute data — Agentic Search performs best when descriptions, specifications, and categories are well populated.
  • Monitor the queries users ask to discover new intents and merchandising opportunities.
  • Combine with Semantic Search and AI Synonyms for a fully AI-powered search stack.
