Delete Products from Search Index

Overview

The Delete Products feature lets you remove specific products from the ExpertRec search index without modifying or deleting them in your store catalog. Deleted products will no longer appear in search results or autocomplete suggestions. Navigate to Merchandising > Delete Products in your ExpertRec dashboard (route: /ecom/merchandise/delete-products).

When to Use This Feature

  • Discontinued products: Remove items you no longer sell so customers do not land on dead product pages.
  • Internal or sample products: Exclude test listings or internal SKUs that were accidentally indexed.
  • Restricted items: Hide products that should not be searchable for compliance or business reasons without removing them from your backend systems.
  • Duplicate listings: Remove duplicate or variant products that clutter search results.

How to Delete a Product from the Index

  1. Go to Merchandising > Delete Products.
  2. Search for the product by name or paste the product ID into the search field.
  3. Select the product from the results list and click Remove from Index.
  4. Confirm the action. The product is removed from search results within a few seconds.

Bulk Deletion

To remove multiple products at once, use the CSV upload option on the Delete Products page. Prepare a CSV file with one product ID per row and upload it. All listed products will be removed from the index in a single batch operation.

Important Notes

  • Deleting a product from the index does not delete it from your store. Your catalog remains unchanged.
  • If your store re-syncs (for example, via a scheduled full re-index or a product update webhook), a deleted product may be re-added to the index. To prevent this, use a business rule to permanently exclude the product, or mark it as hidden in your store catalog.
  • To restore a removed product, trigger a manual re-sync from Dashboard > Data Source > Re-sync Now.
