AI Synonyms

What AI Synonyms Does

AI Synonyms automatically analyzes your search query patterns and generates synonym suggestions for your store. Instead of manually adding synonyms one by one, AI Synonyms discovers related terms that your customers actually use interchangeably — even the ones you might never have thought of.

This dramatically reduces the manual effort of maintaining a high-quality synonym dictionary and helps you catch long-tail variants, regional spellings, brand-vs-generic terms, and evolving customer vocabulary.

How to Access AI Synonyms

  1. Log in to your ExpertRec dashboard.
  2. Navigate to Search Ranking > AI Synonyms.
  3. Review the list of AI-generated synonym suggestions.

How It Works

AI Synonyms runs continuously in the background and:

  • Analyzes search queries received over time on your store.
  • Identifies terms that lead to similar result sets or are used in similar contexts.
  • Clusters queries that users issue interchangeably (e.g. “sneakers” and “trainers”, “sofa” and “couch”).
  • Produces candidate synonym pairs with a confidence score for your review.

Review Workflow

  1. AI suggests synonym pairs based on usage patterns and result-set similarity.
  2. You review each suggestion in the AI Synonyms dashboard.
  3. Approve or reject each pair with a single click.
  4. Approved synonyms are applied to search and immediately improve recall for those terms.

Difference from Manual Synonyms

  • Manual Synonyms (see the Synonyms article) require you to know all term variations upfront and add them by hand. Great for enforcing brand rules and product-specific mappings.
  • AI Synonyms discovers patterns you might miss — jargon, abbreviations, misspellings, and colloquial terms that real shoppers use in their queries.

The two features are complementary: use manual synonyms for known, high-priority mappings and AI Synonyms to continuously surface new ones.

Best Practices

  • Review suggestions weekly — a short, regular review cadence keeps the backlog small and catches trending terms early.
  • Start with high-confidence suggestions — these are the safest to approve and deliver immediate wins.
  • Monitor search quality after applying — check zero-result rates, click-through rates, and conversion for queries that match the new synonyms.
  • Reject misleading pairs — if a suggestion would confuse categories (e.g. “phone case” vs “phone”), reject it so the system learns from your feedback.
