Popular Suggestion Queries

Overview

The Popular Suggestion Queries page lets you control which trending or popular search terms appear as suggestions in the autocomplete dropdown when a customer has not yet typed anything. Surfacing the right popular queries encourages exploration and increases search engagement.

Navigate to: UI Customization > Popular Suggestion Queries

How Popular Queries Work

When a customer clicks the search box but has not typed any characters, ExpertRec can display a list of popular or curated queries. These come from two sources:

  • Automatically generated: ExpertRec analyses your search logs and surfaces the most frequently searched terms over a recent time window.
  • Manually curated: You can add, edit, or remove specific queries to promote seasonal campaigns, featured brands, or product categories.

Managing the Popular Queries List

  1. Navigate to UI Customization > Popular Suggestion Queries.
  2. To add a query, type the term in the input field and click Add.
  3. To remove a query, click the delete icon next to it in the list.
  4. Drag rows to reorder the list. The order here determines the display order in the dropdown.
  5. Click Save to apply your changes.

Display Settings

  • Enable popular queries: Toggle this on or off to show or hide the popular queries section entirely.
  • Number of queries to show: Set how many popular queries appear in the dropdown. 5 to 8 is a typical range.
  • Label text: Customise the heading shown above the popular queries list, such as “Popular Searches” or “Trending Now”.

Best Practices

  • Update the popular queries list at the start of each season or campaign period.
  • Use curated queries to highlight new product lines or promotions.
  • Keep the list to 6 or fewer items to avoid overwhelming the dropdown.
  • Avoid queries that consistently return zero results.
